Webcam Video Capture is a screencapture tool that records video. Its name suggests that it can be used to capture webcam feeds on your computer, and, in fact, it can also do much more. Basically, when recording a webcam feed, Webcam Video Capture actually records a region of your screen. So it doesn't matter if it is someone's webcam, YouTube video or an application that is there, this application will record it. Of course, the quality of a screen recording will not be the same as that of the original feed, but it is still watchable.

The first thing that I tried is to record a friend on mine while we were webcam chatting. I selected the region by dragging and dropping a pointer onto the webcam screen and clicked on "record". The application then went to the system tray and I clicked the tray icon again when I wanted to stop it. I got an .AVI file that is playable on any player. In the settings, you can change the output format. Webcam Video Capture supports a variety of codecs, among those is MPEG-4.

I later tried to get a video off YouTube. It was a successful try, but the recording wasn't as smooth as the original video.

Webcam Video Capture can record both audio and video, so it can also function as a screencasting tool. All in all, the application seems very responsive. It is easy to use and the recordings are of satisfactory quality.
